Here’s a chance to have a say in the redevelopment of a popular local park - a message from The Prairie Winds Park Redevelopment Team.
Prairie Winds Park is one of Calgary’s most well-used and well-loved regional parks. It first opened nearly 25 years ago and is in need of upgrades and improvements. Before a new design for the park is created and redevelopment work begins, the project team wants to hear from the community on their thoughts and ideas for the park.
Over the next several months, Parks will be holding a comprehensive engagement and review process to gather input and feedback for park upgrades from the community.
Engagement will take place in phases. The first phase, from now until August 2, will see two key questions being asked:
- What do you like most about Prairie Winds Park?
- What changes would improve Prairie Winds Park?
There are many ways to share input, including:
- Providing comments on the sounding board in Prairie Winds Park (questions are being asked in multiple languages, including English, Punjabi, Urdu, Tagalog, Arabic and Gujarati)
- Taking part in an online survey at www.calgary.ca/prairiewindspark
- Participating in Flag Day at Prairie Winds Park on July 26 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will have a chance to use flags to vote on areas of the park they like, and areas where they’d like to see changes.
- On Twitter using #prairiewindspark
- Texting your feedback to 331-431-5333 (Text messaging rates may apply. Please check with your provider.)
In addition, three Walking Tours of Prairie Winds Park are being planned for key community stakeholders on Thursday, July 24 (6 to 7:30 p.m.) and Friday, July 25 (from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.). If you are able to attend any of these Walking Tours, please RSVP to [email protected] with your preferred tour time.
In the second and third phases of engagement, scheduled for later this year, the public will have a chance to review initial concepts for the park redevelopment and provide further feedback. Detailed design and construction document preparation will occur in 2015, with construction starting in 2016.
Redevelopment plans for the Park will also incorporate the newly renovated spray park, which will reopen in early August 2014. More information about the spray park renovation is available at Calgary.ca/parks by searching “wading pools, spray parks and outdoor pools.”
If you have any questions about the project, please email [email protected] or contact 311. More information and updates on the project are also available at www.calgary.ca/prairiewindspark.
